Welcome to Authentic Fitness GA! My name is Sharde’ Parkman and I am a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and NASM-CPT.
My fitness journey began in September 2013 with the primary goal to lose weight. I have always been an active individual but I did not have the best diet. In my mind, if I exercise. It would not hurt to eat fried foods, fast foods, and snacks that are currently viewed as unhealthy. Also, I am an African American female. There are risk factors that may impact my overall health. This could be due to genetics or simply what I place in my body that increases the risk for Diabetes, Hypertension, Cancer, or Heart Disease. I had a decision to make. Would I like to live a long healthy life without limitations or a life with comorbities that could have been prevented or less severe due to genetics?
Insanity by Shaun T was the weight loss trend in 2013 so I decided to give it a try. After completion of the three month program, I lost 25 pounds which was great! I obtained a gym membership shortly after where I started my journey of weight lifting for body tone. My diet changed in terms of lifestyle modifications and in 2015 I became a Pescatarian.
